Weekly Dharma Discourses are given in English by our Spiritual Director, Ven. Lama Tenzin Kalsang, on Lam Rim, the Graduated Path to Enlightenment. These Teachings are from the lineage of Lama Tsong Khapa, our Root Guru and founder of the Gelug-pa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. We also engage in mindfulness of breathing meditation. People of all levels of familiarity with Buddhadharma are welcome and encouraged to attend this class. |

CONTINUING
ON
INTO
2012!

In the winter of 2011, we
finished studying Fifty
Stanzas
on
the
Spiritual
Teacher.
However, high copies of the text are
still
available for sale at Tengye Ling. Please inquire about the cost of this book
when you come to the class.
Throughout the Public Winter
Retreat of 2011 and beginning in the New Year, Venerable Lama Tenzin Kalsang
started
giving Dharma Discourses on a text authored by Sangharakshita entitled
The
Buddha's
Noble
Eightfold
Path.
This book concerns the most widely known of the Buddha's Teachings. It is
ancient -- extending back to the Buddha's very first Discourse -- and is highly
valued as a unique treasury of wisdom and practical guidance on how to live.
This text is an inspiring introduction and takes the reader deeper and deeper
into truth while always remaining practical and accessible. Sangharakshita
translates ancient Teachings and makes them relevant to the way we live our
lives today.
Copies of the book entitled
The
Buddha's
Noble
Eightfold
Path
are still available for purchase at Tengye Ling.
Please inquire about the cost whenever you join us for the Dharma Discourses.
Everyone is welcome to attend these auspicious Teachings!

In the spring of 2011, we
discontinued studying Sutra of the Wise and the
Foolish.
However, copies of the
book are
still
available for sale at Tengye Ling for
$25.00
including tax.
In May of 2011, Venerable Lama Tenzin Kalsang began
giving Dharma Discourses on a text authored by Aryashura with a
commentary by Geshe Ngawang Dhargyey entitled
Fifty
Stanzas
on
the
Spiritual
Teacher.
This book is an indispensible guide that deals with how to cultivate the proper
relationship between a student and his or her Spiritual Teacher. This
text, along with the oral commentary by Geshe-la, has been ably translated by
the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives translation bureau and revised by
Alexander Berzin.
Copies of the book entitled
Fifty
Stanzas
on
the
Spiritual
Teacher
are now available for purchase at Tengye Ling in two, different formats.
Please inquire about the cost of both of these when you attend the classes.
Please feel free to join us for these auspicious Teachings!

In November of 2010, Venerable Lama Tenzin Kalsang began
giving Dharma Discourses on a text translated from Mongolian by Stanley Frye entitled
Sutra of the Wise and the
Foolish.
It is known as
The Ocean of Narratives.
In this Great Treasure of Buddhist literature, Stanley Frye beautifully recounts
narratives of Jataka Tales or rebirth stories. The theme of these narratives
traces the cause of our present day human condition, the reason for this state
of being and the means for overcoming suffering. Unlike The Greek Tragedies,
these Buddhist stories are a call to transcend our unhappy states of mind and to
move beyond that which need not be endlessly endured.
The characters that we meet in
Sutra of the Wise and the
Foolish, although living
in the time of the historical Buddha, can also be perceived in present times
too--in Canada, Ontario or even within the city of Toronto. The problems that we
face in our everyday lives are the same as those experienced by
everybody--everywhere--throughout all the ages. Herein lies the timeless appeal
of this profound Buddhist scripture.
A shipment of books of
Sutra of the Wise and the
Foolish recently arrived
from North India and are now available for purchase at Tengye Ling for
$25.00
including tax.
Please feel free to join us for these auspicious Teachings!

In November of 2010, we
finished studying The
Path to Enlightenment.
However, copies of the
book are still
available for sale at Tengye Ling for
$20.00
including tax.
The Path to Enlightenment
is authored by His Holiness The Dalai Lama and edited by Glenn H. Mullin.
In this extensive Teaching, The Dalai Lama beautifully elucidates the meaning of
the path to enlightenment through his own direct spiritual advice and personal
reflections. Based upon a very famous Tibetan text, this Teaching presents in
practical terms the essential instructions for the attainment of enlightenment.
Its direct approach and lucid style make
The Path to Enlightenment
one of the most accessible introductions to Tibetan Buddhism ever published.
Extensive commentary on
The Path to Enlightenment
has been provided by
Venerable Lama Tenzin Kalsang during the Dharma Discourses for nearly two years.

In December of 2008, we
finished working on
the text authored by Ven. Dr. Walpola Rahula entitled
What the Buddha Taught.
However, copies of the
book are still
available for sale at Tengye Ling for
$17.00
including tax.
This class is open to the general public
and there are no prerequisites in order to attend.
This is a study workshop facilitated by Ven. Lama Tenzin Kalsang. This group is conducted in order to facilitate integration of the principles of Buddhism while giving up inappropriate behaviour.
Gen-la is an innovator of Buddhist psychotherapy and skillfully addresses the welfare of everyone while encouraging the creativity of each individual person.
This group/workshop is open only to those who regularly attend teachings and who wish to integrate Buddhism into everyday life, while eliminating samsaric behaviour.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m., every second
Friday of the month in proximity with the Full and New Moons.
(time and location are subject to change; please
call ahead to confirm or check the Special Events link on our website)
This prayer, chanted in English verse, helps us to strengthen our
connection with The Living Buddha, His Holiness The Dalai Lama. This is the key practice
of Guru devotion which enables us to create merit necessary to quickly reach the state of
a Fully Enlightened Buddha for the sake of all sentient beings. Please bring an offering
of vegetarian food or a non-alcoholic beverage.
